HAMMONDS PLAINS — The city is looking into safety on the Hammonds Plains Road. Municipal staff will review the issues presented by the Highland Park Ratepayers Association but that doesn’t mean the city will be able to fix the reported problems, said Ken Reashor, metro’s transportation and public works director.
Changes can't come soon enough. Yesterday was our second close call in less than a year (not including the countless times I had to hit the shoulder to avoid someone crossing the line). I'm not sure if anyone else saw the accident yesterday or not but it was too close for comfort. A lady pulled out from Northmount causing a major accident where a Honda t-boned a Subaru. We were immediately behind the Honda and slammed on our brakes and came within a foot or two of rear ending him. The guy in the Honda had busted up knees, a bloody hand, and likely whiplash. We thought the old woman in the Subaru was dead because she wasn't moving and blood was pouring from her head. Thankfully for everyone, a plain clothed officer was driving by at the time and showed me his badge as I got up to the lady in the Subaru. So I went back to the guy in the Honda to keep him company. It was all very scary and I can't get it out of my head. I was very impressed with how quickly the RCMP, EMS and Fire were on the scene. Kudos to them all.

Thanks for the link to that FB group, I joined and invited all my Hammonds Plains friends. That accident sounds horrible. I almost got rearended at the Yankeetown Road intersection as I and the vehicle in front of me were slowing for another car in our lane that was trying to turn left...I guess the person behind me did OK to slow down but the person behind them did not get the memo...came racing up to us all standing there. She managed to pull off onto the shoulder and no harm done but it could have ended very badly.
