News Item: : Information Session on Forming a Group for Businesses in the Hammonds Plains Area

The twenty five year planning strategy for HRM has virtually no plans for Hammonds Plains area. The main reason for this is that to date Hammonds Plains has never had a unified voice and has therefore not been heard. To change this, several Hammonds Plains and area businesses have expressed an interest in forming some sort of group, whether it is a Chamber of Commerce, Business Association or Business Improvement Development Board (BID).
Businesses, whether home based, commercial or trade would be more than just a business association, chamber of commerce or BID Board. Members would be engaged in the Hammonds Plains and area community, advocating for positive change and decisions that will have a positive effect both for residents and businesses.
The proposed association, chamber or board would be dedicated to the promotion, expansion and development of its members by providing services that directly aid, support and promote their business by expressing and supporting common goals for its protection.
Through this unified voice, the public would be educated on the benefits of doing business within the Hammonds Plains and area community. It would develop a liaison effort to act on behalf of the association, chamber or board relative to other organizations, groups and governments; the sole purpose being to perpetuate the association, chamber or board by interaction and by informing other groups as to what it is and represents. It would also generate and support events which improve the quality of life in the community.

The information session on April 8, 2010 will have guest speakers who have been involved in other business associations and chambers of commerce, as well as being familiar with how the BID program works. They will explain the pros and cons of the different organizations and offer their invaluable insight.
This meeting is an open invitation to all Hammonds Plains and area residents.
